Skin Conditions

Oily Skin

What is it and how is it caused?

Oily skin is the result of the skin making too much sebum. Everyone produces sebum, an oily, waxy substance that helps trap in moisture, keeping the skin soft, supple and waterproof. But when tiny glands in the skin called sebaceous glands produce too much sebum the result is excessively oily, shiny skin.

Too much oil on the surface of the skin can lead to pimples, blocked pores, blackheads, and other blemishes. It also becomes harder for dead skin to shed, leading to their build-up on the skin’s surface. All of these effects are a common sight among teenagers but can happen at any age.

How we can help

We supply a range of SkinCeuticals products that are specifically designed for oily skin, acting to unclog pores and reduce shine by absorbing excess sebum. We also offer treatment with intense pulsed light (IPL), which targets the root cause of oily skin by reducing the production of excess sebum.

Rosacea

Rosacea is a skin condition that comes in bouts and is considered long-term as it can go on for many years. It commonly affects the face and causes blushing, where the skin turns red. Other effects of rosacea include burning or stinging sensations, dryness, thinning of the skin, spots, blood vessels in the skin becoming visible and in some cases, permanent redness.

No one knows for sure what causes rosacea, although there are a few possibilities, including abnormal blood vessels in the skin and adverse reactions to small mites that live on the skin.

Certain situations can make rosacea worse; these include intense sunlight, hot or cold weather, stress, alcohol, caffeine, hot drinks, spicy food, and strenuous exercise. Avoiding all of these scenarios in daily life is near impossible but thankfully there are treatments to help ease the symptoms of rosacea.

How we can help

We provide a range of treatments to ease the different symptoms of rosacea, including:

  • Ultrasound: this offsets the redness of rosacea, while also reducing the effects of dryness on the skin.
  • LED light therapy: this stimulates the body to produce more collagen to counteract thinning of the skin.
  • Intense pulsed light (IPL): this treatment sterilises the skin and is also used to treat the appearance of thread veins.

In addition to these targeted treatments, we also supply a range of SkinCeuticals products that are clinically proven to reduce the redness and discomfort caused by rosacea.

Pigmentation

Skin colour is determined by how much pigment it produces, specifically a protein called melanin. Pigmentation in the form of unsightly dark spots or patches occurs when the skin becomes damaged and reacts by producing extra melanin in these areas.

One of the most common causes of pigmentation is damage from sun exposure. The end result is uneven, patchy skin tone. Other causes of pigmentation include scarring from acne or hyperpigmentation after inflammation or injury of the skin. The effects of pigmentation can be reduced with appropriate treatments.

How we can help

We supply a range of clinically proven SkinCeuticals products designed to reduce the appearance of skin discoloration by exfoliating dead skin cells and protecting the skin from further environmental damage. In addition we also provide the following treatments for more immediate results:

  • Medical peel: an effective way to remove superficial pigmentation, revealing healthier, more evenly toned skin below.
  • Intense pulsed light (IPL): a targeted treatment using photorejuvenation to help resolve skin pigmentation caused by hormonal changes.
  • Jett plasma pen: a targeted treatment to reduce or remove skin spots and superficial blemishes caused by pigmentation.
  • Derma-roller: using super-fine needles packed together on derma-roller tips, this treatment rehydrates the skin and produces a more even skin tone.

Acne

Acne is a long-term skin condition where hair follicles get clogged up with dead skin and sebum, an oily, waxy substance that the skin produces to keep itself lubricated and waterproof. Signs of acne include blackheads, whiteheads and oily skin, usually around areas of the skin that have lots of sebum-producing glands, such as the face, upper chest and back.

During the teenage years rising hormone levels can lead to acne. But for most adults with acne the cause is genetic. Acne beyond the teenage years usually affects people in their twenties and thirties and wears off in their forties. Waiting for acne to run its course can therefore be a long road, which is why several treatments have been developed.

How we can help

We supply a range of SkinCeuticals products designed to fight the causes of acne, namely the production of excess oil and the clogging of pores due to the build-up of dead cells. This not only helps improve the appearance of existing blemishes but also helps prevent future breakouts.

In addition we also provide the following treatments for more immediate results:

  • Medical peel: an effective way to remove dry patches of skin resulting from the use of harshly dehydrating acne creams and the build-up of dead cells.
  • Derma-roller: using super-fine needles packed together on derma-roller tips, this treatment helps reduce scarring caused by acne.
  • Intense pulsed light (IPL): this targeted treatment sterilises spots caused by acne and reduces the production of sebum.

Severely Aged Skin

The skin, like any other part of the body, ages but for some their skin can age faster than the rest of their body. This results in severely aged skin, which presents as excessively dry, thin, wrinkled, saggy skin. The skin can also appear dull and blotchy.

The causes of severely aged skin include a range of environmental and lifestyle factors: smoking, sun tanning and sunbed use, drinking alcohol and exposure to pollution and sunlight. While there is no turning the clock back, making lifestyle changes can slow the effects of aging skin and as for the damage that has already been done, there are treatments to help with that.

How we can help

We offer a range of solutions to bring back a more youthful appearance to severely aged skin. Each treatment or suite of treatments will be tailored to your particular needs and concerns. We offer the following solutions for aged skin:

  • Hifu facelift: a non-surgical alternative to the traditional facelift that uses ultrasound technology to stimulate your own body to produce collagen, resulting in a natural restoration of lost volume and facial contours.
  • Vampire facial: using injections of your own blood plasma, concentrated to enrich it with platelets, this facial stimulates the production of elastin and collagen to tighten up saggy skin.
  • Medical peel: an effective way to encourage skin cell renewal by removing dry, wrinkled skin, revealing smoother, fresher skin below.

Jett plasma pen: a targeted treatment to reduce deep lines and wrinkles by stimulating the production of collagen.

  • Thread lift: a delicate minor surgical procedure to lift saggy facial skin, producing smoother skin and more defined facial contours.
  • Dermal fillers: injections that instantly restore lost volume, filling out hollows and restoring the contours of the face.

In addition to these treatments we supply a range of clinically proven SkinCeuticals products that you can use at home to help maintain the effects of your treatment and slow the aging process.
